 Jennifer Rene Psaki, an American political advisor, served as the 34th White House Press Secretary from 2021 to 2022. As a member in the Democratic Party, she was previously the White House deputy presses secretary (2009-2011); White House deputy communications director(2009-2011) as well as spokesperson for the United States Department of State (2013)-2015 and White House communications director (2015)-2017. Psaki was an election contributor to CNN between 2017-2020. Psaki began her professional career with an Iowa Democratic senator, Tom Harkin, and was later elected governor of Iowa. Psaki then became the deputy press secretary of John Kerry's presidential campaign. From 2005 until the year 2006, Psaki served as communications director to U.S. representative Joseph Crowley and regional press secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. In 2012, Psaki returned to political communications, serving as press secretary to the Obama reelection campaign in 2012. 20 years ago, Psaki was appointed spokesperson for the United States Department of State in February 2013. The appointment in the Department of State fueled speculation that she would succeed White House Press Secretary Jay Carney when he left the White House,[21] but, on May 30th in 2014 it was announced that Josh Earnest would replace Carney. She was appointed Communications Director at the White House and continued to perform this role until the end of 2015.
